NPR to read Phillips poem

University of Iowa alumna Katie Phillips’ poem “Driving Montana, Alone” will be read on public radio’s “The Writer’s Almanac” on Friday. Garrison Keillor will read the poem, which won the Slapering Hol Press 2010 Chapbook Contest.

Driving Montana, Alone is a collection of poems that covers everything from loneliness to loss and to sorrow. Phillips uses simple language to describe the natural and human made world.

James Franco has a busy Sunday planned: He’s co-hosting the Oscars with Anne Hathaway and is nominated for best actor for his performance in “127 Hours.” When it’s all over Franco, who is also a writer, producer, director, soap opera actor and English grad student (what did I miss?), might just be thinking about poetry.

Man publishes lifetime of poems to show his love for wife Milly

They never had a party to celebrate their marriage, they didn’t have a single wedding photograph and they couldn’t afford a honeymoon, but 72 years later this adorable couple could be the most romantic pair in Britain.

This Valentine’s Day, 100-year-old war veteran Moss Rich became Britain’s oldest working poet, deciding to publish the love poems written for his wife over their decades together.

Reagan’s favorite quotes, jokes coming in May

NEW YORK (AP) - His letters and diaries already are best-sellers. Now, Ronald Reagan’s private collection of jokes and aphorisms is being published.

HarperCollins announced Wednesday that “The Notes” will come out May 10, as part of the ongoing centennial of the former president’s birth.

The book will include quotations from Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill and others, along with some of Reagan’s favorite jokes, written by hand on index cards.
